Chapter History
On March 13, 1955, 14 ladies chartered Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc ® Zeta Xi Omega Chapter in Augusta, GA. The ladies were Leila Bradby, Marjorie Carter, Lois Coleman, Gertiedeen Corbett, Willie George Elim, O’ Greta M. Everett Walton, Lucille Floyd, Helen Kelly, Sallie Nelms, Josephine Richardson, Betty Scott, Margaret Weston, Robertsteene Griffin, and Vivian Wilds.
The chapter made their mark in Augusta by implementing programs and being a service to all mankind. The chapter is still continuing the legacy by participating in the six initiatives under the theme of Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.
Ms. Hettie F. Copeland and Ms. Ella Springs Jones have both served as past Cluster VI Coordinators. Ms. Jones was also the Centennial 16th Regional Director for the South Atlantic Region for the years of 2006-2010.
Ms. Yolanda F. Copeland is the current Cluster VI Coordinator. She is the first legacy Cluster Coordinator and is following in the footsteps of her mother, Mrs. Hettie F. Copeland.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc ® Zeta Xi Omega Chapter sponsors two undergraduate chapters. The chapters are Zeta Eta Chapter at Paine College and Mu Zeta Chapter at Augusta University.
In 1991, the chapter formed the Zeta Xi Omega Housing Foundation, Inc. With having the housing foundation, the chapter was able to purchase the historical home of the late Mr. and Mrs. John M. (Rosa) Tutt.
